Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ve most certainly have heard about http://www.twitter.com

As a matter of fact, there’s a good chance, that’s exactly how you ended up on my Blog. For all intents and purposes, that’s proof that using Twitter, to develop relationships for marketing and business purposes, absolutely works.

For a little 140 Character Microblogging platform, Twitter sure packs a punch. I mean, there are atleast 50+ tools that I know of that were created to enhance your Twitter Experience, making this particular Social Media Platform one of the Hottest Trend in 2009.

Branching into Mainstream, meaning, it’s even getting mentioned on TV, Twitter is THE place for Small Business Owners, Network Marketers and MLMers to engage with a multitude of folks who share common interests.

Ahhh, but there’s always a better way to do anything in life, and if you have caught the “Twitter Bug” like me, you’re probably looking for a way to streamline, enhance, and get the MOST of your Twitter Marketing Efforts.

So I kept seeing people on my Twitter Stream (Twitter Stream refers to the conversation going on by the people you are following) posting from a place called “Tweetdeck”.  But of course, sometimes, my unwillingess to change, made me disregard even looking into it.

But then another, and another and yet another person was using it and I thought, I definitely have to look into this thing, to see what the Fuss is all about…. and I’m so glad I did.

As you can see by the picture above, opening up the All Friends  @replies and the DM (Direct Message) is just one of the functions that Tweetdeck streamlines. (PS, as you will also note in my Pic Don’t use DM to SPAM!

Tweetdeck, is an Adobe Air Platform, which in it’s simple yet sophisticated format, gives you more power to streamline the way you use Twitter.

It is currently in public Beta, and aims to evolve the existing functionality of Twitter by taking an abundance of information, ie, twitter feeds, and breaking them down into more manageable bite sized pieces.

I also suggest you keep it running in the background and turn off your speakers. You can easily get distracted by the “Submarine” Sounds from the Friend Activity Notifier which will “Blooop, bloooop” everytime someone posts a tweet. If you have a lot of friends, that could and WILL get annoying, and even worse, distracting.

Like everyone else (and there mother), I got the invitation
to RT the Viral Twitter Tool, called Tweeter Getter, that sends you to a page to RT the following message:

“ @Garymccaffrey has a crazy idea, 19,530 new twitter followers in 30 days? Check it out..”
Then it requires you to proceed to enter your Twitter Username and your Twitter Password (that was actually
the first RED Flag for me, but onward with the story)

Then there are a list of 5 people that you will automatically follow and then they “return the favor”
by following you too.

(sounds like, I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours…)

 

 

When I first clicked on the link, I intuitively PASSED on partaking of this “MASS COLLECTION of FOLLOWERS”.

After all, who doesn’t want a “Rock star” Presense on Twitter, in only 30 days?

But Curiousity got the best of me, and I went through with the sign-up, “just to see what would happen”.
ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR INTUITION

The voices in your head will usually give you stupid advice and will turn on you in a nano-second.
My intuition told me, why on earth would you want all these people who could give a crap about you
following you?

I’d much prefer a “BRITNEY” Following of Loyal followers who will love you through thick, thin, and bad hair days…rather than a bunch of people who followed me, just so they could “get MORE people”.

It truly defeats the purpose of Social media, which, to me, is about building relationships with people
who are genuinely interested in you, and you are interested in them, and you share value amongst each other.

Think of Twitter like one big party.

The Best parties I’ve been to are the ones that I had with family and friends - people who actually give a crap
about well, partying with me.

Tweeter Getter kinda reminds me of that episode of Hanna Montana, where Miley Cyrus and her brother forget their Dad’s Birthday, and then bring the Gardener, and the Plumber the day after to celebrate.

They didn’t care, the dad didn’t care…

What was the point?

Tweet Getter in my humble opinion, taints the meaning of what social media is about.

You skip the whole, lets get to know each other part, and just follow, cuz, well, cuz everyone else is doing it.

And I’m the type of girl that likes to march to the beat of her own drum.

I hate following the crowd! ( I should have known better!)

OBSERVING DEMI MOOORE

I really began to look at the REAL Influential people on Twitter, people who had a Ton of Organic Followers (meaning, people who had a GENUINE interest in who they were following) 

Take  Demi-Moore for example.

Every last person who is following her is either a hard core FAN or family and friend.

She shares personal photos of her and Ashton, sharing pics of their trips across the globe, it’s absolutely charming.

You can bet that Demi is not going to follow back a bunch of Marketers who want her to sign
up for their Biz-opp.

Quite Frankly, her Twitter Stream was so “intimate” that I almost felt I was intruding because, even though I like Demi Moore, I don’t like her enough to “follow” her.

Part of the Fun of Twitter is the Conversation, the interaction, I love @ ing with people I have stuff in common with, it’s just so much darn Fun…

But @ing with the drop shipper in China, just woudn’t make sense for what I do..ya know?

WHAT WOULD PERRY BELCHER DO?

And then after I really started to analyze the most followed people on twitter, like @garyvee, @perrybelcher  

@ mike_dillard  @alejandroreyes, @leolaporte  

I decided to even DELETE my entire Tweetlater Account.

Tweetlater is that oh so convenient, instant DM and Follower tool that allows you to Schedule your Tweets, or instant Private Message people as soon as they begin to follow you, which seems like a terrific idea except for the fact that it can come off as real ingenuine.

(Note to self: The next time one of these viral tools come out, think to yourself – WWPBD? (What would Perry Belcher Do?)

I mean, think about it, seriously, anyone who really gives a damn about their online reputation, before one of these new shiny tools surfaces think to yourself, would Mike Dillard, Perry Belcher, Frank Kern or any of those influential marketers use  a tool like Tweet Getter?

(I rest my case.)

Some of you may be reading this and Gasping, but you know what, a wise personal stylist on a Fashion makeover show I wathced once said,

“You can’t control what people think of you, but you CAN Control how you are presented” and
I don’t want to be perceived as a “spammer”, and sorry guys, but Tweet Getter, in my opinion, crosses that line.

I think that the instant tools, however convenient they can be, lack the essence of what social media marketing
is about, and it’s about being GENUINE and AUTHENTIC, and it’s about Building Relationships.

My decision to Delete my Tweetlater account once and for all ignited in my mind, after I had made
a connection with someone I regard extremely highly on twitter.

He’s was a well known MTV VJ back in the 80’s and is  Currently the Co-CEO of http://www.Mevio.com and the Godfather of Podcasting (the Podfather) Adam Curry.

He has a show I listen to faithfullly called “No Agenda” which you can check out here: http://noagenda.mevio.com

I began following Adam a couple of months ago when I heard he was on Twitter.

He’s got over 8,000 followers and was only following a couple hundred, but after a few cool @ interactions
with him (super Smart and Fun Guy) He began Following me, Super Cool.

When I went to look at my Private Welcome DM’s I realized that my CANNED Tweetlater Message was sent
to him, and I was flushed with embarrassment that a Canned, superficial, meaningless message to go
visit my BLOG was sent to him. YUCK!

It was at that moment I realized, that if I wasn’t going to look at each and every follower, and
DM them Personally, then I was totally missing the point of social media, which is QUALITY over Quantity.

So, although I do see alot of these tools as “convenient” and many of them are very Useful, if they
don’t maintain the integrity of who I am at a core level, then I won’t use them.

It’s more important to develop quality relationships with people who want to hear your message.

Not doing this would be the equivalent of the Pope following Jenna Jameson, or Mother Teresa following Howard Stern.

It just wouldn’t happen, and much less, make sense.

From here on out, I’ve privately and personally DM’d  every single follower manually, who I have a genuine interest in, and ignite a long lasting meaningful relationship.

The response is so much more meaninfgul becasue, lest we forget, that on the other side of that TWEET or DM is a “REAL PERSON” and if you can manage to bring back the “human touch” to marketing, you will have fans for life and THAT my friends, is more important than having a bunch of followers.

After all, that’s how it Works in the “Real World!”

My Monavie Friends, if you are still frustrated because you are still inside the “traditional” bubble of network marketing that tells you to make a list of family and friends to pitch your opportunity to, or have gone through yet another round of “Garbage” dead-end leads, this article contains information that will completely open a new door of opportunity for you, and change your perspective on marketing altogether. You will even begin to enjoy growing your business again. In the next few paragraphs you will have a paradigm shift in the way you market, and you’re going to ask yourself, “why didn’t I know about this before?”

You can easily generate FREE LEADS that are Interested in your products without you having to cold call, buy your way into the top levels of your organization, or harrass your friends and family.

There are FREE methods and paid methods, and if you use both at the same time, you will end up generating more leads than you know what to do with.

Here are 6 Different ways to start generating qualified recruiting leads for your Monavie business within the next 72 hours. So get ready and take notes.

 

1. Social Networking. There are several social networking sites like Myspace, Facebook and LinkedIn just to name a few. The purpose behind setting up a profile in a social network site is to network with people who may be interested in your business. A good place to start would be to search for friends who have common interests as you do. You can do this by conducting a search right on MySpace. You can enter words such as “Athletic” “Weight Loss” or target groups who may have a genuine interest in the products you have to offer, such as “stay at home moms” or “dieticians” for example.

The key is to find the people who are already buying the same or similar products that you are selling, and to place yourself right in front of them. But don’t go in there and start pitching your product because that is a big NO-NO in Social Networking. The idea is to network and start building relationships on these sites, and place your links strategically so that people passively click on your links to your site as they get to know you better.  Also keep in mind, just because people don’t join your business, doesn’t mean they are not valuable. You just never know what those networking relationships can evolve into.

2. Article Marketing. Article Marketing is very powerful. Although it can be a time consuming task, once your content is out there. It becomes viral, and it will continue to work for you 24/7 365 days a week. Simply write articles that have to do with your products, and the benefits, or case studies or personal stories about what your products have done for you or other people. Make it “keyword” rich, and you are as good as gold.

3. Video Marketing: There is nothing more powerful than video marketing, in my personal opinion. But you must take a conservative approach to doing it. In other words, you can’t just go out there and start pitching people on video. You must offer VALUE by way of information or coaching and training, and then include links in the description of your videos for people to contact you.

4. Pay Per Click Advertising: Want instant Results? Pay Per click advertising is surely the way to go. But doing it the wrong way can be DISASTROUS. I personally lost $500 in less than two weeks when I first tried it. Thanks to educating myself and learning from some of the most influential marketers on the internet, pay per click is no longer an issue for me, as a matter of fact, it has been profitable. But you have to know what you’re doing. Do it right, and you can get instant results and red hot leads for your Monavie Business.

5. Forum Marketing – Forum Marketing is so laser targeted, that this is a bonafide way to generate free leads and traffic to your site. This is as simple as finding a forum that is geared towards your niche, which could be health or weight loss, for example, and start posting away. Get involved in the conversation. Add Valuable info to the forum. Don’t just chime in for the sake of getting notice. Really add value, and then you can post links to your website. People are nosey, and you can bet they will click on them.

6. Twitter: This one falls under Social Networking, but it is so incredibly powerful that I placed it in it’s own category. Twitter is what is called a “Micro-Blogging” site. It’s a Micro-Blog because you are only allowed to write up to 140 characters per post. So you have to make it short, to the point, and make sure it’s either valuable, or make it a little personal. Why? Because the internet’s very nature, breeds suspicion. People want to know they are doing business with a “real person” and not a scammer. So updating with some personal stuff gives your potential lead or others some insight into your life and who you are and inspires trust. This is super important. Make sure to add a personal photo of yourself and not your company logo. People want to do business with people not their company.

 

Keep this in mind, my Monavie friend, that when you purchase leads, they are more than likely “Generic Biz Op” Leads. They are not necessarily interested in any particular business and are more than likely just shopping around for information. Why spend $1-$5 or more on someone who may not even have any interest in the nutritional field whatsoever!

If you start to implement the strategies that I have laid out for you, you can attract laser targeted leads to your business and recruit the RIGHT people into your business!

Twitter is for staying in touch and keeping up with friends no matter where you are or what you’re doing. For some friends you might want instant mobile updates—for others, you can just check the web. Invite your friends to Twitter and decide how connected you want you to be.

How does Twitter work?

When you send in a mobile text (SMS), Twitter sends it out to your group of friends and posts it to your Twitter page. Your friends might not have phone alerts turned on so they may check your web page instead. Likewise, you receive your friends mobile updates on your phone.

How much does it cost?

Twitter is a free service. At some point they may introduce optional, for-pay features or services but basic usage will remain free. Note: with phone alerts turned on, Twitter makes use of texting or SMS so check with your mobile provider to find out if this will cost you extra.

How Does Twitter help me Get Free Traffic and Targeted Leads?

In Networking, making Connections and building relationships is KEY!

I always make it a point to start conversations with people (you can do this using the @ symbol) using Direct Messages, and also finding people who have common interests as you do and start following them!

It’s a Reciprocating community, so usually, when you follow someone, they’ll end up following you…

Now you just have to be interesting enough so that people keep up with your updates!
