Hey Marisa! Well I don't claim to be an expert on that type of situation, although I totally understand what you mean, but there are different steps to the sales process.

The Sales process takes a Few Steps.

1.Prospecting
2.Initial Contact
3.Sales Presentation
4.Handling Objections
5.Closing the Sale
6.Follow-Up and Service after the Sale

Again, alot of this has to do with Psychology. Personally, I've confused, Nice with "Confident". And there are customers that WILL take advantage of "Nice" People, if they sense that you are not confident and firm about what you do. That goes back to "POSTURE". I know I have had to polish up those skills myself, outside of the shoe store ;).

If your offer is better, and your services are great, perhaps all you need is to brush up the skillset on how to deal with the Clients.

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Cargegie OR, Robert Cialdini's " Influence, the Psychology of Persuasion" are a good place to start!

Attracting them is Half The Battle!

Hope this helps!

Hi Barbie,
I totally agree with you that you have to make the customer feel special and offer assistance (be overall "genuine" and nice - as long as you are genuinely nice LOL) and the sales will follow... BUT I want to know why I have always been like that, and yet my competition is mean & obnoxious but seems to get the customers I cannot get?! And let me clarify - my CLIENTS tell me that my competitor is rude and obnoxious! Yet, they still continue to advertise with with them (I sell advertising) even though I am nice as PIE AND our product and services FAR surpass what they offer!!! I just do not get it and have been trying to figure it out for 6 years now. If you can give me some help, I would be oh-so-grateful!!
By the way, I got to your blog from a re-tweet from @mattgeib :) Just thought you should know!
