Why I almost Quit….
Have you ever felt like quitting? I’m sure you have, we all have at some point, but there is this little voice inside that tells us to keep on going. Some of us listen to it, others ignore it, and yet others don’t even really know it exists.
Despite my hectic schedule and the fact that I have 3 Small kids all under the age of eight, I took on something that I’ve been wanting to try for a while now- homeschooling.
Some people told me, what a wonderful mom I am for doing it, others thought that I had gone completely nuts, but had it not been for my success in network marketing, and the belief that I can truly have what I desire, this opportunity may have never manifested itself.
Network marketing allows me the freedom to “choose” the lifestyle that I want to live. I am far from being “rich” by monetary standards, and I don’t drive a Ferrari, (although my H2 is nothing to sneeze at
but that is besides the point. The point is as difficult as some people made it for me, putting pressure on me that I may fail at it… I still had to stay firm to my decision to move forth, even if it’s not what the “norm” in society does.
Is Home Schooling easy? Not for a newbie. Just like when I started in network marketing, I felt like a fish out of water. So I sat there with my son and started to teach him his first lesson, and to my surprise, he started giving me a hard time. “But we agreed that we would do homeschooling and that you wouldn’t give me a hard time, I told him”
“Oh Mom, but I don’t want to do that it’s too hard!” I had given him a handout in learning how to write in Cursive, his first challenge, was to write the letter “A”.
He was frustrated, and so was I. And I said to myself, forget this. I’m not going to do it. I’m sending you back to public school, and I had contemplated re-enrolling him out of shear frustration. And then I stopped myself. NO, this is what we decided on, and we are going to follow through. I commited to it for atleast a year, and I wasn’t going to let one little frustrating moment change my course of action.
So I sat down with him, and had a serious conversation with him. I told him that if he wasn’t going to follow through with me on what we committed to, that he would have to go back to school. He started crying and begging me that he would pay attention and do as I instructed. As a matter of fact, he did 3 extra work sheets just to prove he was serious.
What is the Lesson here?
We all go through tough times, and frustration, and especially when you are faced with trying something new, it is much easier to entertain the thought of quitting. At that moment, when the thought creeps into your head, because it will, ask yourself, why did I start on this journey anyway? What do I wish for the outcome of this to be?
For me in Network Marketing and for Homeschooling alike, the reasons were the same. I got into both so that I could provide true time freedom and the ability to freely express creativity, to grow and to evolve, to open up doors of opportunity where society or the “norm” limits us and as Frank Sinatra once said, “to do it my way”… isn’t that what life is about?
So keep going. Find the solutions, remember your “WHY” write it down, feel it in your heart. And then, and only then, when you are driven by your why, the rewards will naturally follow.
I love this video from Dicky Fox, it is short, but powerful:
I truly believe that with the right tools, training and coaching, and with a deep desire to make your dreams come true, you can do anything you put your heart and mind to.
