Beachbody Power 90 Workout Review – Lose 55lbs in 90 Days?
You’re wondering if it really works and if the people in the infomercials are just photoshopped actors who are just scamming you to sell you products.
I totally understand that it’s pretty hard to believe that you can actually get results like the ones you see in the infomercial for the beachbody power 90 program.
However, I’m going to ask you to set your skepticism aside for a moment so I can share my beachbody power 90 story with you.
My Personal Beachbody Power 90 Review Story
Back in 2000, I gave birth to my first son in August. I was working in an office and basically ate whatever I wanted when I went on my Lunch break with my co-workers.
I was in total denial about how much weight I had gained, but after I gave birth to my son, who was only 8lbs 7 ounces and I was still in the 200lb Range, I knew that I had eaten, one too many plates of Rice, Beans, Plaintains and Steak!
After around 8 months after giving birth, I got truly sick and tired of still wearing my Maternity Clothes! YES I was still parading around town with an 8 Month old and sporting the maternity clothes that I was wearing WHILE he was IN my belly, I decided that enough was enough and I had to do something about my weight. I had lost a little of the weight I had gained from the pregnancy, putting me around 185, which for me, was the highest I had ever been (at that time, anyway… we will get to how I ballooned to 225 years later in a follow up post, so stay tuned for that!)
Beachbody Power 90 Infomercial – Hook, Line and SINKER I was SOLD.
So one night, like most Americans do, I was up late watching TV and I happen to catch an infomercial.
Prior to the infomercial, I was throwing money AND Time away on purchasing Quick Fixes, Diet Pills, Doo-hickies and Gadgets and Workout programs, like Tae-Bo, that just weren’t motivating me to stick with it.
But there was something ‘Special’ about this workout program.

The Beachbody Power 90 Workout Routine
Power 90 was Beachbody’s Flagship Product. I actually purchased it when it was on VHS tape and you had to pop it into a VCR! But I just had a feeling that this would be the workout I could finally commit to from home, without investing in a Gym Membership, which I could not afford at the time, and have to put my baby in the daycare.
I loved that I could do the workout from Home and See Results in only 90 Days.
The Beachbody Power 90 Workout Routine Consists of Alternating Days of Sweat and Sculpt and includes the Following:
Phase 1-2 Sweat (Which is basically Cardio Moves including a Power Yoga Warm-Up, High Heat Moves like Jumping Jacks and running Lunges, and Kick Boxing Cardio and Punching like Hooks and Upper Cuts! Very Fun Workout!) and the workout is completed with 100 Ab Reps, called Ab Ripper.
Phase 1-2 Sculpt Consists of Strength Training. It’s a Full Body Workout in that it starts with Pushups, Bicep Curls, Swimmers Presses, Chest Flys Etc, using Dumb bells (you must purchase separately) and rounds out the workout with Walking Lunges and Standing Squats for a full body Complete workout.
You stay on Phase 1-2 until YOU are ready to move on to Phase 3-4 or in about 4 weeks. Whichever comes first.
Once You Move on to Phase 3-4 You can expect to do MORE of the same Moves from Phase 1-2, except you will have one additional rep each sequence. PLUS you will have one extra Sequence all together in the SCULPT Workout that you didn’t do in Phase 1-2 which includes Wrist Curls, Alternating Calf work, Back Extensions and Chair Dips, just to name a few. Oh YES and instead of doing 3 sets of walking lunges, you will do 5, that is ‘alot’ of Fun and trust me, you’ll feel it the next morning! ha!
So what were My Beachbody Power 90 Results?
I lost a whopping 55lbs in a little over 90 Days and went from a size 16 to a size 6. I could totally kick myself because my Original before and after photo, side by side comparison, were deleted from my computer when it crashed years ago, BUT I do have some progress photos and my AFTER Photos where you can see me with my Baby and I’m obviously Skinnier. Beachbody Power 90 Pros and Cons
Ok so Last but Not least, let’s go over the Pros and Cons of the Beachbody Power 90 Program.. and there ARE a Few. Knowing this upfront will give you as much information from the get go to decide if this is the program for you. I’m just gonna keep it real cuz I don’t want unhappy customers.
- Workout is SIMPLE YET Challenging. Not alot of Fancy Moves or Choreography. Just Good ‘ol Solid, working out.
- Phase 1-2 is only 35 Minutes, Phase 3-4 is approximately 40 Minutes. You’re In, You’re Out, You’re Done!
- Simple Eating Plan, all spelled out for you.
- Tony has a Great Sense of Humor and will keep you chuckling through the workout and he keeps you motivated. It’s alot like paying a Celebrity Trainer but having him to yourself for your workout at home.
- Simple System. Only 2 Disks, Alternating Days of Cardio and Strength.

- Timer on the Screen to keep you Motivated (I cannot tell you how many times I’ve looked at that countdown clock and then just pushed through the last few moves cuz there were only a few seconds left so I made the best of it!)

- Being that we are in 2012 and Power 90 Came out in 2000, You may feel that the quality of the DVD is outdated. Tony Horton is about 42 (now 55?) So that may bother some.
- Tony Horton has a Sense of humor, and although I think it’s Awesome, some personality types think he is annoying. I’m just there to workout and get results, so either way, I’m good!
- If you don’t like using Resistance Bands (which I personally hate!) You will need to get a decent set of Dumbbells if you don’t currently own any. (I Got these from Amazon and they are a Great Bargain: LRF – 40 lbs to 60 lbs Adjustable Cast Iron Dumbbells! The #1 on market (50 LB) )
- The Music Track is HORRIBLE. Think of it as ‘Elevator Music’ for Fitness. It’s Pretty CRAPPY and Unmotivating. That’s why I tell All My Clients to either Design their OWN Playlist on their IPODS and set the ‘Music Option’ to OFF OR Just buy the ‘ESPN – Jock Jams 3 – CD’ From Amazon.com and Pop that in your Boom box.
Jock Jams has some GREAT Music and this is actually the DVD that I did with my Original Round of Power 90 in 2001.
